Video: Tupelo Holds Inauguration Ceremonies For Mayor, Council
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Tupelo’s mayor and all incumbent city council members were sworn in during inauguration ceremonies .
It was a full house at the Elvis Presley Birthplace and Museum theater for the inauguration ceremonies for Tupelo’s elected officials.
Mayor Jason Shelton handily won a second term and promised to focus on unity, attracting more homeowners to the city and advancing the “TUPELO Plan.”
Four of the seven city council seats were contested in the general election, but incumbents won re election, including Ward 4 incumbent Nettie Davis, who is now the longest serving member on the council.
“This is the first time I’ve experienced being around the council two terms, I think this is great because everybody understands what is going on, when I first got on the council I had to learn a lot.” said Ward 4 Councilwoman Nettie Davis.
“I think it shows we have a great ability to work together to get things done and we are able to disagree without being disagreeable when we have differences, we handle things in a professional manner,” said Mayor Shelton.
Mayor Shelton also said he will keep all department heads in their positions.
