Columbus Teen Faces Slew Of Misdemeanor, Felony Charges

LOWNDES CO., Miss. (WCBI) – A teenager is in jail in Lowndes County on a slew of charges, including possession of

                              BURKS

drug paraphernalia and assaulting an officer.

Juvante Burks, 19, of Columbus, was arrested Monday. Burks faces misdemeanor and felony charges.

He’s charged with:

  • speeding 10-20 mph over the limit
  • no turn signal
  • failure to yield to blue lights
  • driving with a suspended license, DUI
  • no insurance
  • possession of paraphernalia
  • destroying county property
  • failure to obey a police officer
  • resisting an arrest
  • simple assault on an officer – felony

No bond has been set on the felony charge of assaulting an officer. Burks’ court date is set for July 25, 2017.

Right now, Burks remains in the Lowndes County Jail.
