East Webster/ICC’s Hollenhead Named NJCAA Softball All-American
FULTON, Miss. (WCBI/LetsGoICC.com) – Sophomore third baseman Mamie Hollenhead (Mathiston) was named a 2017 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Second Team All-American late Thursday afternoon.
Hollenhead led the team with a.469 batting average and had a team-best 90 hits with only five strikeouts in a team-leading 192 at-bats on the season. She had 25 doubles, a team-high six triples, two home runs, and four walks to score 52 runs and drive in a team-high 71 RBI while successfully stealing 16 bases on 17 attempts. Hollenhead was second on the team with a .480 on-base percentage and a .693 slugging percentage.
Defensively, the Mathiston native finished the season with a .971 fielding percentage with 65 putouts, 104 assists, and nine double plays and only five errors in 174 total chances.

Hollenhead finished her career at ICC with a career batting average of .472 with a .481 on-base percentage and .701 slugging percentage. She had 167 hits with 42 doubles, six triples, nine home runs with 128 RBI and 90 runs scored with 30 stolen bases, eight walks and only eight strikeouts in 354 at-bats and 103 games.
She ended her career in Fulton with a .956 fielding percentage with 219 assists, 127 putouts, 15 double plays, and 16 errors in 362 total chances at third base.
Along with being named NJCAA All-American, Hollenhead also earned her second National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American nod and South All-Region nods. She was named to the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State First Team and NJCAA All-Region 23 Team for the second straight year.
Hollenhead is the fourth Indian to earn NJCAA All-American honors in softball and the first since 2012 when outfielder Jessi Patterson (Nettleton) was selected to the third team as a freshman. Other NJCAA Softball All-American selections include; outfielder Kimmy Nicholson (2011/Nettleton) and shortstop CeCee Austin (2010/Randolph), both earning the honor as sophomores.
She joins ICC football wide receiver Terry Williams (Southaven) on earning NJCAA All-American status this year and is the 55th student-athlete to be named All-American by the NJCAA since 1974.
