VIDEO: Severe Weather Outbreak Leaves Damage In Tishomingo County
TISHOMINGO CO., Miss. (WCBI) – A super cell storm marched across Tishomingo County Saturday afternoon, leaving damage in its path and some residents without a roof.
For Tishomingo County resident Jolly Walls, Saturday’s storm left a big impact.
“I just know the tornado was coming and I had come in the house to take cover and all of a sudden I just felt the house shake real bad. I looked out the window and saw the tree laying across the house,” said Walls.
The storm left five structures damaged on Valley Road. Walls has had to cut power to his home as a result of a tree landing on the power line, but he says he’s happy things weren’t worse.
“Yes, it could have been so much worse. There’s no internal damage on the house, it’s mainly the outside on the roof, the metal roof was damaged where the tree has landed on it, but everyone is safe, that’s the main part,” Walls adds.
Tishomingo County 5th District Supervisor Greg Collier says he’s thankful for the response team’s quick action during and after the storm.
“We’ll have people out in the morning helping people get this stuff off their houses, the trees and everything. We’ve had the fire department work with us real well, the power company that’s worked real well with us. The other supervisors that came in and worked with us. We’re good to go and we are happy that everybody’s okay,” says Collier.
Right now, the National Weather Service hasn’t yet confirmed there were any tornadoes on the ground. They’ll do a survey of the area at a later date.
So far, there are three homes with roof shingle damage north of Highway 25, and two homes on Valley Road with severe roof damage.
Collier says they will continue assessing that damage.
There were no injuries during today’s severe weather outbreak.
