Independent Movie Fans Headed For Tupelo Film Festival

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Fans of “indie” films will get a chance to see some unique and entertaining movies over the next few days in Tupelo.

The 14th annual “Tupelo Film Festival” kicked off Thursday evening. It all takes place at the Malco Commons near the Mall at Barnes Crossing.

More than 60 movies will be shown over the three day film festival. The event gives independent filmmakers from across the area and the country a chance to show their work and visit with fans.

“I think the beauty of independent filmmaking is that, you see stories you wouldn’t necessarily see in a studio film so I don’t know, I like to think you get to see how the director’s brain works, studio films are great, I go to them all the time, I love them but there’s something about an indie film story , it’s just different,” said Wendy Keeling, a Nashville based independent filmmaker.

A pass for all three days costs $25 . There are also workshops, and the Mississippi high school film competition takes place Saturday.
