Video: Suspect Arrested Outside Lee Co. Justice Center After Going Onto High School Campus With Gun
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – A Lee County man is arrested after authorities say he became upset that a family member was taken out of school to youth court, went to the school with a gun, then headed to the courthouse where he was arrested.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says the suspect went to Shannon High School, after learning his family member had been picked up, on a court order, and taken to youth court.
The suspect allegedly showed the gun to the school’s principal, then left for the Justice Center.
The principal notified authorities who stopped the suspect outside of the Justice Center, and arrested him.
“You don’t go onto school property with a weapon and try to handle the situation, there’s protocols you go through and if there’s a problem there’s a proper way to handle it and this certainly is not any way to do it,” Sheriff Johnson said.
There are armed deputies inside the entrance to the Justice Center. A weapon was found in the suspect’s car. The suspect will be charged with having a firearm on school property. Also, he could face aggravated assault charges. The sheriff’s department will release his name after charges are filed.
