Video: Columbus Celebrates Downtown Improvements
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The Columbus-Lowndes Convention and Visitors Bureau celebrates a makeover to a historic business district and an extension to a popular trail.
Thursday morning, the organization hosted a ribbon-cutting for two projects: a Riverwalk extension and Catfish Alley improvements.
The Riverwalk project extends the trail for 1,000 feet along the Tenn-Tom River and underneath the Highway 82 bridge.
In Catfish Alley, there is now a concrete path, landscaping, lighting, and other amenities to improve the overall appearance.
Officials from the Mississippi Department of Transportation were among guests who celebrated the improvements.
The addition to the Columbus Riverwalk is part of a long-range plan to connect to the Columbus Air Force Base and several parks.
Catfish Alley was once the center of African-American business and culture in downtown Columbus.
