Video: Ministry Aims To Keep Students From Going Hungry On Weekends, Holidays
AMORY, MISS. (WCBI) -Kids in the Amory Public School district, whose parents may struggle to make ends meet, won’t have to worry about going hungry during holidays or weekends.
A ministry called the “Full Tummy Project” has had space donated to them in downtown Amory.
That’s where volunteers met to stock the shelves with non perishable food items. Those items are packed in ziploc bags, delivered to area schools where the food packs are distributed to the children.
It is all done discreetly, so there’s no shame or embarrassment for the children.
“The kids that receive this are picked from counselors and teachers, they know the kids that need this the most. And then we pack the bags in ziploc bags then again in plastic bags so it’s discreet and kids won’t get picked on, hopefully if they need it and they’re older,” said Krisi Boren, of the “Full Tummy Project.”
Currently, the “Full Tummy Project” serves about 30 children a week. However, the goal is for every school in Monroe County to have an opportunity to take part in the program. For information on how to get involved, call 662 315 0860.
