United Way Teaming up with Area Businesses and Agencies to Promote Literacy

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) –A good book opens your mind and broadens your vocabulary.

And that is just how the Local United Way leaders are encouraging reading and literacy across the community.

A community book drive began today collecting books at several spots in Webster, Winston, Choctaw, and Oktibbeha counties.

United Way Executive Director of North Central Mississippi, Candy Crecink, tells us just how big of an impact that even the smallest deed of donating a book has.

“A couple instances that just sort of places the importance of this. Sprite lady comes in and says where are your romance tables, and we showed her. She says ok now pull me up a chair which we did. She says get me at least three boxes she said these books are my life and that’s what’s keeping me going.”

Along with United Way members, Starkville Kiwanis Club and Family Center Excel will collect books until April 29th.
