Video: Columbus Nightspot will Change Hours in Wake of Weekend Shooting
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) –Reaction to a weekend shooting in Downtown Columbus took center stage at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.
People voiced concerns tonight and leaders agreed on changes.
The owner of the Princess Theater made a proposal to cut back hours and close off a section of the bar.
The theater area will be closed permanently.
And the bar will temporarily close each night at 10 o’clock.
The mayor and city council unanimously agreed to the proposal.
They say it’s an effort to limit the number of people in the downtown area late at night.
The Princess Theater owner tells us he agrees with city leaders about the need for change.
“I was just as concerned as the citizens in downtown about what happened, I live in downtown as well. All I could think of was, what could we do to make sure these types of things do not happen again, at the same time enable my business to continue operate and protect the jobs of the people that’s here. The people that’s been here for years that’s putting themselves through school, feeding their families. I want what the people in downtown want. I want what the city council wants.”
This proposal takes effect right away.
Conversations will continue at the City Council’s April 4th meeting.
