Video: Libby Hankins, the Inspiration Behind “Lungs for Libby”, Passes Away

GORDO, Ala. and DURHAM, N.C. (WCBI) -A sad ending  for a Gordo, Alabama woman who has been fighting for her life in a North Carolina hospital for over a year.

Libby Hankins passed away around noon Friday, surrounded by her family.

The former University of West Alabama student received a double lung transplant at Duke University last year.

Hankins was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when she was two years-old, and her transplant story went viral. The Lungs for Libby Facebook page had over 36,000 followers.

Libby Hankins was 23 years old.
