Video: Teamwork is Key in Solving Homicide Cases
CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Double homicides are rare and even more so in smaller towns. With Tuesday night’s investigation underway in Clay County, the people who work in law enforcement in neighboring counties want to help.
“As soon as the call went out, I immediately started getting calls from around the state, surrounding agencies and sheriff’s- even the US Marshal’s service…”
Even without asking, Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott had an all hands on deck team for Tuesday nights crime scene.
“The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, with their crime team. Also the lee county sheriffs office, Chickasaw sheriffs office, and we also had assistance from the district attorneys office and other agencies have called and offered their assistance.”
They dropped what they were doing Tuesday evening and ran to assist Clay County.
“When we have a crime scene of this magnitude, it ties up a lot of personnel.”
Personnel they can’t afford to lose in other areas of the county.
So when these reinforcements come in, investigators on the scene are appreciative of the extra help.
“All of them have seasoned investigators, so when you bring all these guys together they make a great team. Each one of them has a different set of eyes and it’s a benefit to the public.”
Scott says teamwork is key when solving these kinds of cases and having so many hands on deck.
“It’s not a matter of taking charge, it’s a matter of coming together and at the end of the day get the job done- which we have been very successful at doing.”
Scott says his deputies would respond to neighboring counties the same way in a time of need. In Clay county, Salena Schaffer, WCBI News. >
