CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Clay County law enforcement are still trying to positively identify one of the victims of a double homicide.

Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott tells WCBI investigators have identified the female victim, who is from Lee County.

Deputies have an idea who the second victim is but have not made a positive identification.

The two victims were found on Dixie Road late Tuesday afternoon, near the Webster County line, about 4 PM.

Scott says one person was found inside a vehicle and the other victim was found partially out of the same vehicle.

Investigators say “it appears” the man and woman were shot multiple times.

Deputies were first called to the area about a suspicious vehicle. A second call was placed to 911 about two people inside the vehicle not moving.

Scott says persons of interest were being interviewed Wednesday morning.

“When something like this happens, we know it sends shock waves to this community,” Sheriff Eddie Scott said. “If anybody has any information, we’re urging them to please call the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, or the Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers.”

Scott says he hasn’t seen a double homicide in his 18-year career in law enforcement.

Webster and Lee County law enforcement assisted Clay County deputies at the scene on Tuesday night.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is also assisting Clay County detectives in the investigation.
