Video: Rivers Law Moves Forward In Legislature
JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI-TV) – Parents of children 21-years-old and younger may soon know for sure that they’ll get notification if their child is under arrest for a DUI or drugs.
An amended version of House Bill 1089 passed the Senate today having already passed the Senate in Jackson.
It’s called “Rivers Law” and it would require Mississippi law enforcement to notify parents of those arrests. An amendment would create pilot programs in Oxford and three other places for mental health treatment.
Lauren McGraw helped write the bill following the suicide of her son, Rivers, after he had trouble with drugs and alcohol in Oxford this past fall.
