Video: AFR Personality Helps Deliver Shoe Boxes Of Love To Children In South America

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Throughout November, hundreds of churches across Northeast Mississippi held packing parties, as shoe boxes were filled with toys, personal hygiene items and other goodies.
Those shoe boxes are part of “Operation Christmas Child.” It is a project of Samaritan’s Purse. The shoe boxes are delivered to needy children around the world, showing God’s love in a tangible way.

Recently, American Family Radio personality J J Jasper, and his daughter, Maddie, accompanied some of the shoe boxes to South America, where they saw, first hand, the impact a shoe box full of toys can make in a child’s life.

“Most of the children had never received a gift in their entire life,” Jasper said.

J J and his daughter helped deliver shoe boxes to kids in Columbia. He recalls one young boy who was especially interested in one item packed in his box.

“My daughter Maddie was sitting beside a little boy and there were some toys and things in the shoe box but the very first thing he pulled out was a tube of toothpaste and he had never seen a tube of toothpaste and his family didn’t have one,he had heard about that and he started to wave it around in the air and was excited speaking in Spanish,how excited he was to have a tube of toothpaste, it really does put things in perspective that we have a lot to be thankful for,” Jasper said.

Jasper is especially thankful he was able to take his daughter Maddie along for the front row seat to share in a child’s joy. He wants everyone who packed a shoe box to know that the simple gifts have a lasting impact.

“At each location they sing songs, have skits, clearly share the gospel in the children’s language and then at the end, open the shoe boxes, and to see the unbridled joy and enthusiasm as these boys and girls would get these gifts given in Jesus name,” he said.

This year, Operation Christmas Child opes to collect enough shoe box gifts to reach 12 million children worldwide.
