Video: State Representative’s Domestic Violence Case Moved
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) –It will be January before State Representative Kabir Karriem’s domestic violence case will be heard in court.
The case was moved from Columbus Municipal Court to Lowndes County Justice Court to avoid any conflicts of interest.
Karriem was arrested in October after his adult daughter called 911.
A Columbus Police Department spokesman says the misdemeanor charge was filed by the investigating officer and based on state law.
Mariah Karriem told police that just after an argument with her father, he hit her three times with a closed fist.
She later signed an affidavit saying her father did not hit or push her.
Justice Court tells WCBI a court date will not be set until January.
