THS Seniors Give Back To College Bound Seniors In Boys And Girls Clubs
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – As people were enjoying the live music at the Farmer’s Depot, Tupelo High School Senior Josh Martin was restocking the smores bar.
For months now, Josh, Dakin Reed, Rachel Dudas and Brandi Reynolds worked as a team , planning their senior project.
“So we have named the event, the BGC Bash, the Boys and Girls Club Bash,” Reed said.
Dakin and her classmates wanted to do something to help college bound high school seniors who attend the Boys and Girls Club of North Mississippi. All money raised from the bash will go to a scholarship fund.
“It kind of blew our minds that they didn’t have a scholarship already, especially since they work with young people and they’re bettering their lives, and college is one of those things that betters your life,” Reed said.
There was a lot of details planning the bash, such as lining up catering services, contacting a decorator for tips and then getting the word out to make sure a big crowd came out to help seniors in the Boys and Girls Clubs.
“I think it’s really important to help the Boys and Girls Club because they do so much in the area and that gets expensive very quickly, they have multiple fundraisers throughout the year, but they have to use that money in other places, so we thought if we did the work for them, they could get more done, with a scholarship,” Martin said.
The BGC Bash raised $4,300 for college bound seniors in the clubs.
The THS seniors who organized the BGC Bash are hopeful it can become an annual fundraiser.
