Video: Polygraph States Officer Didn’t Plant Gun In Ricky Ball Shooting
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – WCBI has obtained documents that support the claims of Canyon Boykin’s counsel that Columbus resident Ricky Ball was armed the night of his death.
Court documents show that former Columbus Police Department officer Garrett Mittan passed a lie detector test where he stated that he did not plant a gun at the scene of Ricky Ball’s shooting death.
The Columbus Dispatch first reported the news Thursday.
According to a polygraph examiner’s report, Mittan took a polygraph on Oct. 21, 2015 and answered “no” when asked if he placed the gun at the scene and if he saw how the gun arrived at the scene.
Mittan was one of the first officers on the scene of Ball’s shooting death. He resigned from the CPD after the incident.
Boykin, a former Columbus Police Department officer, fatally shot Ball in October of 2015.
Boykin’s counsel recently filed the documents for the upcoming criminal case against him. A grand jury indicted Boykin for manslaughter in September.
The court documents state that the Columbus Police Department matched the serial numbers of the gun reported stolen from Mittan Aug. 5 and the gun found at the scene.
Attorneys and supporters of the Ball family have claimed someone with the police department planted the gun at the scene the night of Ball’s death.
