Video: Starkville’s Mattox Signs with Southern Miss

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — One of the best running athletes in the state is staying in Mississippi.

Starkville High School senior Kate Mattox made it official on Wednesday as she signed her letter of intent to run cross country and track at Southern Miss. She chose the Golden Eagles over offers from Mississippi State and South Alabama.

Mattox has been the Gatorade Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year in Mississippi in each of the last three years. She has also won an individual State Championship in every one of those seasons.

In the classroom, Mattox maintains a superb 4.1 GPA.
