Video: Haunted Theatre Takes Visitors To The ‘Comus’

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – This year’s Haunted Theatre takes visitors on a doomed spacecraft named the “Comus.”

“A ship left in the sixties , came up missing for 56 years, reappeared in the jungles and that’s where it all begins and you have to come see how it all ends,” said Steve Miller,

who is director of the Haunted Theatre and for the 11th annual fright fest, Miller opted for a sci fi space theme for those brave enough to enter.

“They start with a cockpit, and they work their way through the entire ship, there’s a couple of times where you will exit and come back into the ship, it’s a lot of fun and it’s something that’s entertaining, not just scary but definitely entertaining, a lot of attention to detail in this,” Miller said.

It takes about 36 actors every night to bring the COMUS to life. Volunteers have spent weeks transforming the LYRIC Theatre into a space odyssey.

Perry Hershfelt plays a ghoulish, zombie like character who ushers visitors through a room of the COMUS. This is her second year to take part in the Haunted Theatre.

“It’s just really fun to scare all different types of people and all different ages, it’s just fun, I’ve loved to go through it but being in it is so much more fun,” Hershfelt said.

Those who were brave enough to enter the COMUS gave it rave reviews.

“It was pretty cool, I don’t like getting yelled at, I think that’s what scared me the most, he was hiding in my hair the whole time,” said Emily Campbell.

“I enjoyed it, it had some really good parts I recommend people to go do it if they love being scared, this is a great thing for them,” said Jacob Harkey.

And remember, as you enter the COMUS, all proceeds from tickets to tee shirt sales, benefit Tupelo Community Theatre.
