Green Earns NEMCC Honor
BOONEVILLE, Miss.– Northeast Mississippi Community College English and literature instructor Kathy Green of Booneville is the recipient of the college’s 2012 Humanities Teacher of the Year award.
A veteran educator, Green will receive the honor in recognition of her exemplary career at Northeast which began in 1988. In addition to her duties in the traditional classroom, Green is also a certified online instructor and has served as the academic head of the Division of Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences since 2004.
In receiving the award, Green will present “Literature: Getting to the Good Stuff,” a narrative of her personal and professional journey to find the most effective processes for making the study of literature relevant to those who are engaged in it by choice and to those who are thrust into it by coursework requirements. She will highlight her experiences using different pedagogical approaches over the years and share some strategies that she currently uses in her classes. Green will also share examples from her students’ work. Finally, she will briefly touch upon the role technology plays in the way she teaches literature today.
The award presentation, sponsored by the Mississippi Humanities Council and arranged by the Northeast Cultural Arts Committee, is scheduled for November 8, from 10:50-11:40 a.m., in the Anderson Hall Auditorium on the Booneville campus. The public is invited to attend.
Green and her husband, Gerry, are longtime residents of Booneville. They have two grown children and are the proud grandparents of a three-year-old grandson.
