Video: Discussions Continue Over Aberdeen Solar Project

ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) – There was a heated debate with raised voices Tuesday afternoon at the board of aldermen meeting. Discussions continued about a potential solar-based project.

It’s an eco-friendly project that’s a few years in the making. We reported two weeks ago city officials were expecting everything to move forward. It’s clear now that a lot is up in the air.

There’s litigation that’s moving forward. The city agreed Tuesday to not accept a settlement with the company NEP. It would have given Aberdeen a six-figure dollar amount.

As that continues, the project that would bring construction and jobs to the city stalls.

Many residents came out in support of the solar group as some are upset that the board isn’t supporting the mayor’s plans.

“When you get hired by the citizens, elected, voted in by the citizens you have to do what’s right for the people,” Stephen Holliday said.

Many on the board of aldermen told us they’re are weary of breaching other contracts if the solar-project plans were to move forward.
