Video: Rep. Karriem’s Daughter Says She Lied To Police: Link To Full Statement In Story
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – State Representative Kabir Karriem’s daughter now says she lied to police, telling them her father hit her.
The first-term Democrat was arrested last week by Columbus Police and charged with misdemeanor domestic violence.
CPD says Karriem and his daughter got into an argument, and that’s when he allegedly hit her in the head with a closed fist.
Now, 18-year-old Mariah Yazmine Karriem has signed an affidavit saying she got into an argument with her father on October 10th, and that she left the home and her father followed shortly after in a vehicle.
The younger Karriem says in a sworn statement to the court that her father did not push or hit her.
The 43-year-old lawmaker has an upcoming October 27th court date. It’s unclear if Mariah Karriem will face any charges for allegedly filing a false police report.
Karriem’s attorney Austin Vallor says, quote, “There will be a time to present the evidence to the Court to sort this out. We are confident in the outcome.”
