Video: Boykin, CPD Named In New Wrongful Death Suit
ABERDEEN ( WCBI) – A new wrongful death suit is being filed against former Columbus Police Officer Canyon Boykin and other members and former members of the department.

Ricky Martin of Holly Springs is the latest to file a wrongful death suit in the October 2015 shooting death of Ricky Ball. Martin is identified in the court papers as Ball’s natural father. His suit claims Boykin shot an unarmed Ball to death. Boykin, current Columbus officer Johnny Branch, former officers Yolanda Young and Garrett Mittan ,along with former Chief Tony Carleton are all named in the suit. The lawsuit closely mirrors another wrongful death suit and claims the City knew Boykin had a history of confrontations based on race. Martin also claims the city failed to properly train its officers to use body cameras . Martin is seeking a jury trial and wants the jury to set the amount of damages in the case.
