Video: Program Helps Children Understand Disabilities

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Members of Junior Auxiliary of Columbus are helping children better understand disabilities.

They visited Cook Elementary Wednesday for a program called “in my shoes.”

The disability awareness program is for second grade children.

Members read stories about living with a disability. The kids took part in activities to simulate what it’s like to live with some of these disabilities, like working with puzzles blindfolded.

“I think it opens their eyes and lets them realize what it would be like to have a disability,” Martha Galloway said.

Junior Auxiliary has worked with children for more than 70 years.
