Video: Deadly Shooting In Mantachie

MANTACHIE, Miss.(WCBI)–Five suspects are in custody and are being charged with capital murder in connection with the shooting death of a man in Mantachie.
Immediately after shots rang out in the small Itawamba County town, Mantachie police were quickly at the scene.
“We had an officer that actually heard the shots. Once he showed up we had one victim, that victim is deceased now,” said Chief Mark Roberts/Mantachie Police Department.
From what Itawamba County Sheriff investigators are telling us, the motive seems clear….three pounds of marijuana that was seized.
“An attempted burglary that turned into an attempted robbery, where subsequently one person was shot and they later died at the hospital,” said Sheriff Chris Dickerson.
Three suspects 21-Tyjuan Medcalf, 19-Kyra McClenton, and 19-Tonisha Johnson were arrested Tuesday. Two others were arrested Wednesday [Today]in Clarksdale. Along with the pot, a vehicle and two small handguns were seized as evidence. The recent shooting has left residents there with an uneasy feeling.
“The last homicide we had was in the 70’s. So it pretty much shook the town to the core. We’ve had a lot of reports of just scarred people,” said Chief Mark Roberts/Mantachie Police Dept.
“We were able to get boots on the ground and get the job done quickly and solved within 48 hours,” said Sheriff Chris Dickerson/Itawamba County.
The five suspects will make their initial appearance Thursday morning in Fulton Justice Court at 9 a.m.
