Video: Mississippi State Dedicates Newest Dormitory

MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY, Miss. (WCBI) – The newest residence hall at Mississippi State officially opened its doors Friday.

A dedication ceremony was held this afternoon at Deavenport Hall.

The building is named in honor of M-S-U alumnus Earnest Deavenport. The Macon native is the former chairman and C-E-O of Eastman Chemical Company..

He says the dorm is a tribute to the people who guided his education.

” My parents, my mother was a school teacher, so she was educated at least 2 years of college. My father didn’t finish high school, but he was one of the most educated people I have ever known. He educated himself through the encyclopedia and reading.”

The state of the art facility is one of two new dormitories opening this year.
