Video: Good Behavior Awarded With Shopping Spree

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Tupelo’s newest sporting goods store is not open to the public yet, but this afternoon, about 30 members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of North Mississippi were given a shopping spree.
Whenever “Academy Sports and Outdoors” opens a store they have a “Give Back” event. So members of the Boys and Girls Clubs, who have shown excellent behavior, were given $200 gift cards.
The youngsters bought items such as shoes, basketballs, bicycles, and other merchandise.
“We’re here to make money,but we’re also here to kind of give back, we’re not here to take from the community, we’re here to be part of the community,” said Michael Horne, Store Director.
“It’s awesome, I mean all this sports stuff, if I get it, I don’t know what I will do with it,” said Braxton Gibbs, a member of the Haven Acres Boys and Girls Club.
Academy opens to the public July 3rd. The Tupelo store employs about 100 people. This is the 200th store for the nationwide chain.
