TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Bond is set for a Saltillo man accused of robbing a bank just two weeks after being released from prison.
Fifty seven year old Chris Cosner was arrested Wednesday morning, moments after police say he robbed the First American National Bank in Saltillo.
A background check revealed Cosner was a convicted sex offender, who had been released from prison June 15th on a drug related conviction.
Investigators discovered Cosner had not notified authorities of an address change, and he was charged with failing to register as a sex offender.
Cosner is also charged with armed robbery and authorities say he has prior convictions for rape and kidnapping. Bond was set at $500,000 for the armed robbery charge.
“It’s one of them deals, you just don’t know, the way society is today, individuals, or what they’re thinking, or anything, and we’re very fortunate that none of the citizens were injured, along with any of the law enforcement officers,” said Saltillo Police Chief Grant Bailey.
Cosner’s bond was set at $50,000 for failing to register as a sex offender. Chief Bailey says a device Cosner claimed was a pipe bomb was not an actual bomb. Cosner also robbed a customer inside the bank before attempting his getaway. More charges are likely to be filed.
