Quake Rattles Central Mississippi
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – The U.S. Geological Survey says a small earthquake shook Madison County, Mississippi.
Paul Caruso, a geophysicist at the National Earthquake Information Center says the quake of magnitude 3.2 occurred at 8:23 a.m. Monday. The epicenter was about four miles southwest of Canton and 19 miles north-northeast of Jackson.
Caruso says it was too small for any significant damage to be likely.
He says analysts don’t know what fault is involved. But he says the epicenter is well southeast of the New Madrid (MAD-rid) fault.
Caruso says the agency got reports about the quake from Madison, Canton, Ridgeland and Jackson.
