STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Summer Career Shadowing Day took place at Starkville’s OCH Regional Medical Center today, as students ages 16 and up joined hospital staff in an effort to learn more about future careers in the healthcare profession. The job shadowing offers students the chance to interact with and observe nurses and doctors and gain insight into a profession of the student’s choice.
“I’m wanting to go to the W when I graduate and get my RN degree and then specialize in either labor and delivery or neonatal nursing, and I chose to do the nursery up here today to see what it’s all about and see if that’s really what I want to do,” said Job Shadowing Student Chelsey Fulgham.
“I’ve just kind of showed them around our unit and kind of showed them the way we do things, and I’m hoping that they can see the true love that we have for our patients and see the care that we give and maybe we’ll make an impact on the things that they decide to do in the future,” said Labor and Delivery Nurse Kadie Fancher.
Job shadowing opportunities covered a variety of professional healthcare areas including nursing, physical therapy, speech language pathology, and more. OCH welcomed its 5th year for Summer Career Shadowing Day.
