Video: Elementary School Hosts Sweet Taste Testing
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) –
Students at Tupelo’s Parkway Elementary are learning about the benefits, and taste, of sweet potatoes.
Volunteers with FoodCorps conducted taste tests with students using roasted sweet potatoes grown donated from Topashaw Farms in Vardaman.
It is part of an initiative to teach students about the benefits of local, healthy foods.
“So right now we’re trying to raise the food literacy for our kids, it’s important for them to learn about nutrition, health and where their food is coming from,” said Amanda Huels, of FoodCorps.
Youngsters were also able to sample fresh, butternut squash as part of the taste tasting day at Parkway.
