STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Don’t tell the Starkville Junior Auxiliary that something is impossible.
The J-A’s have built a hazard free town inside the Starkville Sportsplex.
For well over 20 years now, a miniature city has stood strong.
And it’s tiny inhabitants are able to stroll along it’s streets and sidewalks free from hurt and danger.
“It just shows how important it is to our community and the value and it’s a great opportunity for kids to get a hands on experience about things that they are already learning about in the classroom,” said Mary Kathryn Kight, Ward Stewart Counselor.
“How to keep safe in a fire, an emergency, and animal treatment,” said Donna Rupp, Starkville JA.
Should an unexpected potentially dangerous situation arise, they are well instructed on what course of action to take.
“What did he say you should do to be safe,” asked Rupp?
“He said I should call 9-1-1,” said Mariah Gillespie, Student.
Many visitors are fascinated by the miniature train and life sized fire stations.
“I’ve seen a fire hose and a ladder. And a fighter fire man,” said Gillespie.
“One day we hope that what they’ve learned here will go with them as they leave here and it may actually help them to avoid a serious injury one day in the future,” added Rupp.
It took Starkville Junior Auxiliary members about two days to construct, or should we say “assemble” Safety Town.
