Being a playful city takes a lot of work. It means major upgrades for recreation lovers. A new multipurpose trail connects the city to the park. There’s A-D-A equipment for people with disabilities, a walking trail, and equipment around the track so families can workout together.
Starkville Resident Tyshon Spencer says Starkville has a lot to offer.
“It means a lot because starkville has a whole bunch of activities and you know like a lot of folks from Starkville like to play sports and everything that anybody really just wants if you’re a sports player,” said Starkville Resident Tyshon Spencer.
The splash pad at the J.L King Park has been the most popular place for the kids and adults to stay cool during the summer. Starkville Parks Director Herman Peters says it’s fun for all age groups.
“We get families from all over the city of Starkville coming and utilizing. The splash pad is basically averaging anywhere from one hundred to two hundred children per day. If you have a child disabled and who cannot get into the splash pad we have the A-D-A equipment there so it’s family friend fun for all age groups at the splash pad,” said Starkville Parks Director Herman Peters.
The kiddie pool and swimming pool at Moncrief Park stay busy.
“The splash pad, the swimming pool is always a fun activity in the summer. People always come as soon as it gets warm so we’re happy that people are able especially with young kids you don’t wont in the swimming pool, but you want them in the water and can go to the splash pad and as they get a little older then they migrate to the water,” said Peters.
These two places will keep the kids cool all summer long.
The Starkville Sportsplex will also have their 4th of July celebration again this year at the Sportsplex.
