Video: Investigation Continues Into Text Messages Between Former Band Director And Students

ITAWAMBA COUNY, MISS. (WCBI) – Itawamba County Sheriff Chris Dickinson says his office was contacted Friday by a former student of Mantachie High School Band Director Josh Robinson, accusing the instructor of inappropriate behavior.

“We did not know until Saturday morning that there was enough there for the school to do what they needed to do,” Sheriff Dickinson said.

The sheriff says text messages from Robinson to the former student were in violation of school policies. On Monday afternoon, Itawamba County School Superintendent Michael Nanney released a brief statement, saying Robinson had been terminated. The statement also said the safety of students was the district’s first priority.

Now, Sheriff Dickinson says the investigation continues, and involves multiple students.

“Hopefully, in the next couple of days, we will have enough to know what direction we are going to go with this, but it is an active investigation,” he said.

Sheriff Dickinson says his office is working with the District Attorney. Also, we know that parents and students met with the sheriff Wednesday afternoon, and at least one parent has hired an attorney, for possible legal action.

Robinson has not been charged with any crime. He was the band director at Mantachie High School for more than two years.
