TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Relief could be in store soon for residents of one Tupelo neigborhood, plagued with chronic drainage issues. Tupelo City Council members are expected to vote on an engineering contract for a project that would improve drainage problems in the Sharon Hills subdivision.
Those issues were made worse when last year’s tornado destroyed hundreds of trees in the popular neighborhood.
The project would cost around half a million dollars and would increase capacity within the storm drainage system, increase existing storage capacity and would make improvements in the neighborhood.
“I think it’s going to be a great situation for the entire neighborhood, it will help us all, there are several houses that have flooded in the past and hopefully this will keep that from happening anymore.”
The vote will allow Civil Link to go ahead with the design phase and bidding and contracting services. Then city council members will look at ways to finance the project, which is expected to take about two years to complete.
