Video: Student Athlete of the Week: Jaley Adams, Kossuth HS, Football

KOSSUTH, Miss. (WCBI Sports) — Jaley Adams is one of the top running back’s in Mississippi. He has over three thousand rushing yards at Kossuth, a school record. The senior is ready to take his game to college next year.

Jaley Adams is in his final season at Kossuth High School. He transferred from Corinth after his freshman year. The quick running back says he notices a difference between the schools on the field and in the stands.

“I guess our surroundings like the crowd on Friday nights. I mean whether it’s away or home. They are always around and I’ve enjoyed how far we’ve come along because before I came to Kossuth the record was kind of shaky,” said Jaley Adams.

“Last season against his former high school team he broke the Mississippi State record for rushing yards in a game with twenty-seven carries, five hundred and forty-three rushing yards and eight touchdowns,” said WCBI’s Jonathan Flippo.

“At halftime I didn’t remember where I was. I really wouldn’t trying to like prove anything. I was just playing, so really like at halftime I was told like I had like three seventy. I didn’t believe it and I was like nah I’m not going to get close to the record,” Adams said.

Adams keeps pushing himself. He wants to be stronger and prove himself as a leader at practice. The work this Aggie continues to put in, is catching the eye of everyone wearing maroon and white.

“He’s a phenomenal athlete. He’s done a lot of things on the field. His work ethic is top notch. You’re going to see the kid in the weight room all summer long usually more than once a day,” said Brian Kelly.

“Ever since he came his sophomore year we’ve just been tight. We’ve been doing everything together. Playing football, running, working, just doing everything,” said Sam Mathis.

The 3-A school has never been past the third round of the state playoffs. Adams is ready to change that stat. He believes this could be Kossuth’s best team ever.

“It would mean a lot. Probably would be the best thing that Kossuth’s ever done because it would get us more on the map,” Adams said.

“What kind of legacy do you want to leave here and be remembered as,” Flippo said?

“I just want to like want to be remembered as the best running back in Mississippi, but I want to be remembered here as like the best running back.”
