Starkville Oktibbeha Schools Take No Action Against Holloway
STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – No action was taken Tuesday against the Starkville Oktibbeha schools superintendent Lewis Holloway.
The school board met in an executive session and released a statement on the matter afterward:
“The school board addressed its personnel decision regarding Dr. Holloway following an investigation by our school board attorney of the underlying incident last August which resulted in a suspension for 10 days without pay. At that time, the board noted its respect for the judicial process, but that process is separate from the board’s personnel decision.”
The statement went on to say that it doesn’t plan on revisiting this decision.
As the statement noted, the board suspended Holloway without pay in August of 2015 following an incident where police say he fired a handgun into the air during a confrontation.
Holloway was found guilty Friday on two counts of misdemeanor simple assault.
Many in the community are speaking out against Holloway’s actions, as WCBI reported earlier in the week. Board president Jenny Turner did speak to WCBI Tuesday.
“I think we always consider the community, we always consider the students and we always consider the district we make all our decisions,” she said.
Holloway and the other board members declined to comment following the executive session, which lasted over an hour and a half behind closed doors.
