MYRTLE, Miss. (WCBI) — A special night got even more exciting with the Myrtle Junior High football team.

Coached by Justin Hollis, the Hawks defeated Walnut 46-6 on Tuesday evening at BNA Park in New Albany.

The win was the first in school history for Myrtle in what was the school’s first ever football game played.

Myrtle is beginning their first football season this year by competing only in junior high. They plan to graduate and compete in junior varsity football in 2017 and 2018 before fielding a varsity level football program in 2019.

Eighth grader Eli Thompson scored the first touchdown in school history on what was the team’s first offensive play of the game.
