Video: A Local Superintendent Found Guilty On Two Assault Charges

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)-Starkville Consolidated School District Superintendent Lewis Holloway remains on the job after being found guilty of two misdemeanor simple assault charges.

The conviction is justice court stems from an incident involving Holloway and his neighbor last year where Holloway fired a handgun into the air during a confrontation.

Education officials aren’t saying much about the conviction but some community leaders are worried.

Some Starkville residents believe Holloway’s conviction comes as a “relief” for the community.

Jim Lytle, whose photography contract with the Starkville School District was cancelled, believes the superintendent should fired.

“I think he’s just a really poor example for the kids, he’s a horrible role model,” said Lytle.

“I think that Dr. Holloway should resign prior to the school board making a decision because he knows, a leader doesn’t make those mistakes,” said Chris Taylor, president of the Oktibbeha County NAACP.

Taylor believes city leaders should also hold board members accountable.

“The board of alderman get to pick three school board members and if they pick people who do not make a decision, are afraid to make a decision, then the personal on the school board needs to be resigned,” said Taylor.

“I’m sure that has to be some of the board’s concern is if they fire him he’s going to sue them because he has a record of doing that,” said Lytle.

Lytle said he believes people are afraid to comment because of possible retaliation.

“He’s a giant bully, and that’s just my opinion, he’s just a bully and that’s why everybody is so scared, and it’s time a bully gets called out,” he said.

The school board will have a meeting on Tuesday, However one board member tells me discussing Holloway’s assault charges is not on the agenda.
Holloway was fined $500 for each assault charge and must attend anger management classes. He has 30 days to appeal his conviction.
