TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI Sports) — Raven McHaney has a 3.5 G-P-A at Tupelo High School and now a rising senior for the Tupelo Lady Golden Wave volleyball team. She is also entering her first year as the regular season starter as a Libero on the volleyball team, which is a defensive specialist.
A little bit of attitude is part of who Raven McHaney is on the Tupelo Volleyball program. The lone returning senior has played all four years. McHaney has had a remarkable career at Tupelo on and off the court.
“It’s amazing. I swear it’s the best thing that’s ever happen to me. I would not won’t to go to any other high school. The opportunities here are amazing. They’re so many sports an luckily I have volleyball to keep me insane,” said Raven McHaney.
McHaney’s teammate says she keeps the players going on the volleyball court.
“Raven is an awesome teammate. She’s always keeping positive. She’s very lifting. I just love the way she’s communicating with us and up lifting us and telling us what we need to do and where we need to be,” said Addy-Parker Spees.
“McHaney has improved over the last three seasons here on the Tupelo volleyball team. Now in her final season with the Lady Golden Wave, Head Coach Laurie Bishop has seen that consistency improve,” said WCBI’s Jonathan Flippo.
“It’s definitely just being consistent and being that trying true player that we know when a ball comes to her she’s going to get it up and she’s going to continue the rally and we are going to get another chance to end the point and score,” said Laurie Bishop.
After McHaney’s career at Tupelo she wants to continue her education at Ole Miss and to help people.
“I love when I can help people in anyway that I can. So with them talking with me and discussing things that they are having trouble with and I can help them,” McHaney said.
McHaney also wants to have her legacy remembered at Tupelo.
“An athletic, smart, determined young lady that didn’t let anything get in her way,” McHaney said.
