Lowndes County Holds Helicopter Crash Drill

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – First responders in Lowndes County conducted a mock helicopter crash today, despite the rainy weather.

Multiple agencies took part in the drill including Columbus Fire and Rescue, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department and the Columbus Police Department. The agencies conduct drills a few times a year and this drill was held near Magnolia Motor Speedway.
The primary reason for holding the mock helicopter crash was to see how quickly first responders could arrive to the site.
Baptist Memorial’s Ambulance Service and the Columbus Air Force Base Fire Department were also on hand.
