State Sets Hearings on Lafayette Road Projects
OXFORD, Miss.–The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) in conjunction with the city of Oxford has scheduled two separate public meetings to discuss the proposed reconstruction of the State Route 6 Intersection at Jackson Avenue and the interchange at Old Taylor Road in Lafayette County.
The meeting for Jackson Avenue will take place on Monday, October 15, 2012 followed by the Old Taylor Road meeting on Tuesday, October 16, 2012. Each meeting will be conducted from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Oxford Conference Center, 102 Ed Perry Blvd., Oxford, Miss.
Citizens are invited to come and go as they please during the hours of each meeting to view the department’s displays and speak to MDOT representatives concerning design, right-of-way acquisition, and environmental issues. No provisions will be made for formal presentations, but participants are encouraged to gather information and provide input as it relates to each project.
According to Northern District Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert, proposed State Route 6 improvements will consist of providing a Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI) at Jackson Avenue and double two-lane roundabout interchanges at Old Taylor Road. The purpose of the each project is to improve traffic flow in an effort to increase safety and mobility.
“Jackson Avenue and Old Taylor Road are vital parts of Oxford’s transportation structure.” said Tagert. “It is imperative that we address the needs of each area as it relates to the present and future mobility of State Route 6.”
