Video: Oktibbeha County School District Preparing to Close for Good

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Staff members at the Oktibbeha County District are in the final stages of closing its doors for good. On July 1st, Oktibbeha County will merge with Starkville schools. Both districts have been working on the merger all year long. Upgrades are being made to the schools staying open but most importantly, students are adjusting well to the changes.

“It becomes a part of the new Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District,” says Dr. Margie Pulley, Conservator for Oktibbeha County Schools.

At Monday’s school board meeting, Conservator Dr. Margie Pulley discussed some of the changes and improvements happening at the County schools that will remain open. She also reported the two districts have already started working together as one.

“We’ve had some combined professional development activities, we have been moving inventory, we have been adjusting inventory and the two elementary schools will stay in tack,” says Pulley.

Both high schools in Oktibbeha County are closing and students there have already begun the transition to Starkville High School.

“They are at Starkville High School taking classes in the morning blocks and we have not had any issues with those students going and transitioning into Starkville School District. Both high schools are sending more than 25 or 30 students over to Starkville High School each day,” says Pulley.

Dr. Pulley says her last day as Conservator is June 30th and it will be up to the new board to decide what happens with the closed high schools.

Staff members from Oktibbeha County can also apply for available positions with the newly formed school district.
