Video: Walmart Grant Sounds Sweet Note with Area Bands

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) –A national retailer is hitting a sweet note with a pair of local bands.

To mark its Grand Opening, the newest Walmart Neighborhood Market handed out grants Wednesday.

The Tupelo Middle School and high school bands each received a check for 2 thousand dollars.

Company officials say Walmart likes to be involved in its communities, and band teachers say the money will make a big difference.

It’s just local giving back to our community, it’s being involved in the community, and community outreach.”

Each year, the school system is allocated a certain amount of money per student, and that money has to be spread over the course of the year, for each student, for music, for instruments, for travel for other expenditures, for instruction and the money we receive from the school system sometimes just isn’t enough.”

Grants were also given to the Tupelo Lee Humane Society, and the School Resource Officer Program.
