Third Man Charged in West Point Assault
WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — The West Point case made national headlines.
Now a third man is in jail on charges stemming from a beating at a breakfast restaurant.
Kent Davis, 23, of Amory, was tracked down Friday morning by the U.S. Marshal’s fugitive task force. He was indicted last month on aggravated assault charges. West Point and Clay County authorities have been looking for him since his indictment in early April and finally called in the fugitive task force for assistance.
His bond is expected to be set during an appearance next week in Clay County Circuit Court.
Two other men — 21-year-old Marquavious McMillian of Aberdeen and his brother, 23-year-old Cortez McMillian of Okolona — were indicted and arrested last month. WCBI first reported at that time. The McMillians were ordered held on $250,000 bonds on the aggravated assault charges.
The charges stem from an incident last August that started in the parking lot of one eatery and continued a few minutes later at Huddle House.
Investigators say 32-year-old Ralph Weems IV, a military veteran, was severely beaten in the parking lot before a friend could intervene.
Weems continues to recover at an Arkansas Medical Rehabilitation Center.
The case attracted national attention when initial reports speculated the fight may have been a hate crime in the wake of unrest in Ferguson, Mo. But the indictments don’t allege such a crime.
