Shumpert Rallies Set For Tupelo Saturday

TUPELO (WCBI) – Two rallies connected to the shooting death of Ronnie Shumpert will take place in Tupelo Saturday after all.

The first will be conducted by a group called Our Lives matter.  They are planning a small motorcade from the Bancorpsouth Parking Lot starting at 10:30 that will end at Fairpark.   Speakers supporting the Shumpert family will then speak before the demonstration will end and participants leave at 12:30.

The second permit has been issued to a group called Confederates United Patriot Society.  Their gathering will consist of a motorcade into Ballard Park and use of the Ballard park Stage from 1:30 until 4:30 Saturday.

These permits come after city leaders earlier this month rejected permit requests from two other groups  citing incomplete details on how they planned to provide security and medical assistance and the fact the demonstrations would have blocked major streets in the city.
