Video: Local Vet Helping out CPD K9 and Handler

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The Columbus Police Department received a surprise Wednesday afternoon.

The Animal Clinic of Columbus donated a unit for the K9 officer’s vehicle.

The thermal detector will alert the K9 officer when the vehicle is too with the K9 inside.

It will also allow the officer to let the dog out of the car with a remote if he’s not nearby and needs to.

“The city’s really invested a lot of money in Stanley, and his training, and he’s really done a great job as far as keeping crime rates down. He’s done search and rescue on lost or missing people. He’s taken down perpetrators. He has done lots of drug busts and found a lot of drug money, so he’s doing his part to keep Columbus safe and we just want to be apart of that,” says Animal Clinic of Columbus Veterinarian, Dr. Kerry Blanton.

The department is very thankful and says the unit is going to be a great benefit.

“On a call, or doing reports for a long period of time. I’m not going to have to go outside, and constantly check on the car and make sure everything’s okay with it, so that’s one of our benefits . The other benefit is the safety for me. If I get into a situation where I need the dogs help, and I’m not able to make back to the car,” says Columbus K9 Officer, Robert Eguires.
