UPDATE – Details Released After MHP Trooper Car Totaled
NEW ALBANY (WCBI). – A New Albany District Highway Patrolman got a first hand look at the effects of distracted driving Saturday.
The trooper was aiding a stranded pedestrian on I22, near New Albany, at approximately 8:30pm, when the crash occurred.
The trooper was standing at the rear of his vehicle when he noticed a truck running off the road and driving towards him. The trooper ran out of the way as the F250 Ford collided into his patrol unit.
The driver of the vehicle was cited for careless driving and failing to move over. He admitted to being on his cell phone.
There were only minor injuries reported from the crash.
