Traffic Stop Nabs Repeat Offender, Others in Starkville

Grassaree

STARKVILLE, Miss. (Press Release) — On Thursday, April 9, 2015, officers from the Starkville Police Department conducted a traffic stop that resulted in two felony arrests and one misdemeanor drug arrest. A car driven by Akem Olajuwan Grassaree, 26, of Macon, was stopped for a vehicle tint violation. While speaking with Mr. Grassaree, it was discovered he had a warrant for his arrest. As Mr. Grassaree exited the vehicle, officers found a bag containing cocaine in the driver door of the vehicle. Grasaree, the son of Noxubee County Sheriff Terry Grassaree, already has at least three drug-related arrests in the last three years. A female passenger was asked to exit the vehicle. The female, Corliss Anita Hudson, 34, of Starkville, was found to be in possession of a small bag of cocaine. Ambien and marijuana were also found inside the vehicle. Mr. Grassaree

was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance Schedule 1 or 2 (cocaine), misdemeanor possession of Controlled Substance Schedule IV, and misdemeanor Malicious Mischief. He was also issued numerous traffic citations. Corliss Anita Hudson was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance Schedule 1 or 2, and Possession of Paraphernalia. A third passenger, John Earl King Jr, 29, of Starkville, was arrested for a misdemeanor warrant and misdemeanor marijuana charges. Bond has been set at $25,000 for Mr. Grassaree. Ms. Hudson’s bond was set at $10,000. Mr. King also had arrest warrants with the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department. He was turned over to that agency. All three are being held at the Oktibbeha County Jail. The investigation in this case is continuing. In an unrelated case on Friday, April 10, 2015, officers from the Starkville Police Department conducted a traffic stop that resulted in one felony drug arrest and 2 misdemeanor drug arrests. A car driven by Thomas D. Green, 32, of Mathiston was stopped as part of an investigation of a suspicious vehicle at the Salvation Army, on Industrial Park Blvd. After obtaining identification information, it was determined that the passenger, later identified as Rebecca Ann Goodin, 42, of Louisville, had given false information. Ms. Goodin was then arrested for Providing False Information to a Law Enforcement Officer. Mr. Green had an arrest warrant, and was detained for Ackerman Police Department. During a search of the vehicle, multiple narcotics were found in Ms. Goodin’s purse. Ms. Goodin was charged with felony Possession of Controlled Substance, Schedule 1 or 2, two counts of misdemeanor Possession of Controlled Substance, Schedule 3,4, or 5, one count of Providing False Information to a Law Enforcement Officer, and Possession of Marijuana, less than 30 grams. Bond for Ms. Goodin was set at $5,000 for the felony charge. The investigation in this case is continuing.
